Video Recorder Guide
Video Recorders have retained their hold even after the UK markets were flooded with sexier, more sophisticated gadgets. A video recorder is basically for recording and replaying video and audio signals. But like everything else, video recorders, too, have become multi-purpose with features like built-in tuners and timers.
Video recorders have either of these two sound systems:
(1) Mono This is a single band sound system for basic video recorders. The limitation here is that even if your device is connected to a stereo TV, the recordings or videos played back through a mono video will be reproduced in mono.
(2) Nicam This sound system gives a crystal clear sound output with a video recorder as it records and playbacks programmes in Nicam stereo sound. You can connect it to a Nicam stereo TV or a stereo Hi-fi system.
Some other features of a Video Recorder worth hunting for:
Videoplus+ - This system allows you to pre-program your video recorder for recording TV programmes. You have to enter the specific code number of a programme from newspaper listings into your video's memory with the help of a remote control. This activates the record function automatically and so you never have to ask your friend what happened in the last episode of Friends.
Programme Delivery Control This is one step ahead of a Videoplus+. A PCD automatically adjusts the timer of your video recorder for instructions to store the entire programme even in the case of a late start or overrun due to an unexpected change to a broadcasters schedule.
Tape Library System This lets you keep a track of all the information like date, time and details of what has been recorded on the tapes.
Set top box control Technology never ceases to impress! You can now record programmes that run on different channels using a set top box control. This is programmed to change channels on the digital set top box.
Tip: Look for add-on featured in a video recorder like- Nicam sound, Videoplus+, Programme Delivery Control and set top box control.
