Used Cars Guide
Used cars may be easily available at good prices, but you need to do some homework before you decide to part with your hard-earned money. Ask questions about the car’s make, model, mileage, previous repairs, and performance before you take a decision. Look around used-car auctions, advertisements, different dealers, and car supermarkets to strike the best deal.
The first decision is the make of the used car. Open your eyes! Carry out a survey of car parks, neighbourhoods and roads to find the most popular cars. Usually, these would be the cars with the best track record. Read publications that compare the performance of different models. The second thing to consider is the mileage. If you are planning to use the car only as a back up, then mileage may not be a primary concern but if this is going to be your only mode of commuting everyday, you need to consider it. Keep in mind the factory warranty of the used car. If you can, buy one that has some factory warranty left. Remember that there are used car salesmen who can turn back the mileage figures, so beware of cars with unrealistic mileage.
Used cars are sold at the lowest price in auctions. However, you may not be entirely sure of the product you are going to buy. There may be hidden damages that only an expert eye can locate. Moreover, you are not likely to receive any warranty in cars purchased at auctions.
You can also buy used cars from private individuals. This is the place where you have the maximum opportunity of inspecting the vehicle. Don’t trust a person who doesn’t allow a test drive. Drive the car on different road-surfaces. Take a careful look at the papers and the used car. Inquire about previous damages and the overall performance of the car.
A used car dealer provides you the most problem-free deal. Their cars are well inspected and even if a dealer charges you more than a private individual does, the warranty he offers makes it worth your money. Moreover, dealers are easier to trace and confront in case of a defective car.
Used cars supermarkets are another option. They offer you almost everything a dealer offers, except a chance to bargain. Nevertheless, there is no harm trying! However, don’t be taken in by the free/ low price add-ons and make sure you take the free test drive!
Tip: Used cars can be bought from dealers, individuals, auctions, and car supermarkets. Check the mileage, warranty, and condition of the vehicle. Popular makes include Ford, BMW, Vauxhall, Rover, Toyota and Land Rover.
