Mini Disc Guide
A minidisc is a miniature CD with the recording ability of a cassette player. A minidisc can be programmed to play songs in any order like a CD but it can be recorded more than a million times without compromising on quality. Moreover, they use only a fraction of the space occupied by other media. Minidiscs are more versatile than any other medium because you can record from virtually any source like MP3, jukebox and CD. It also gives you the option to edit, re-arrange and delete the songs anytime, and many times over!
Minidiscs have their own software to download songs in a few seconds. One of the best in the market today is the versatile and user-friendly software developed by Sony. This also allows you to create your own folders and manipulate the play lists anytime.
Minidiscs generally use ATRAC compression technology for loading songs on the minidisc player with the compression options of LP2, LP4 and Stereo. LP2 gives you 160 minutes of music on a single disc while LP4 gives you 320, although its sound quality is slightly inferior.
What should I look for while buying a minidisc?
To record a playback, go for a playback minidisc player.
To control the music without taking out the minidisc from your pocket, go for an in-line remote control on the headphone lead.
For recording your own compilations, go for a long play model that has about four more space than ordinary minidiscs.
If you download a lot of music from the internet, buy a system with a PC Link that can download MP3 files.
To avoid recharge hassles, pick a player that has a ‘docking station’ for recharging.
To record lectures or live events, make sure you have an attached microphone.
For fast and trouble-free recording, buy a NetMD player that record at 32 times the normal speed.
For live events or long seminars, make sure you carry a few extra minidiscs.
To be the party very own DJ, make sure you have NetMD'sTM music editing features.
Tip: Make sure your minidisc has an attached remote, microphone, docking station and a software compatible with your purpose.
