Ice-Cream Maker Guide
Ice cream is undoubtedly the most favoured dessert for all age groups. Everyone loves to relish his or her favourite premium ice cream at the neighbourhood supermarket. However, nothing beats the enjoyment of delicious homemade ice cream.
The crank model that uses the rock salt and ice mixture is the oldest version of ice cream maker. However many ice cream lovers believe that nothing matches the taste of savoury desserts dished put by this traditional model. In these models, metal dashers are inserted in the cylinders filled with ice cream base and then they are placed in the buckets filled with brine of rock salt and ice. The dashers turn around in the ice cream mixture while it freezes to avoid formation of ice crystals for providing smooth and creamy ice cream. The traditional machines had hand-cranked dashers that have now been replaced by the motor operated dashers. These ice cream makers can handle relatively large batch sizes, however they cannot be opened during the operation that makes it difficult to check the consistency or add late ingredients.
The countertop ice cream makers are compact in size and easy to operate, clean and store. Countertop ice cream makers are available in two variants. The basic model uses a round metal bowl that has freezing agent encased within it. The bowl is frozen and the ice-cream base is subsequently added to it. The machine uses a hand or motor operated plastic dasher. This model has the limitation of making only one batch at a time and you must refreeze the bowl for subsequent uses.
The other model is a composite self-contained unit that uses compressor for freezing. This model does not require refreezing and is capable of handling multiple batches. This model is however very expensive and suitable for the professionals.
The countertop models are made-up of good quality plastic or stainless steel and they can be opened during the process for adding late ingredients. Ice cream makers come in batch sizes ranging from one pint to a few quarts.
Tip: Buy an ice-cream maker that is easy to operate, simple to clean, and has a flexible batch size.
