Flowers Guide
Flowers say it the best. They are perfect gifts for most occasions like housewarming, Valentine’s Days, birthdays, anniversaries and promotion parties. However, the kind of flowers may differ with the occasion. This guide will make sure you never go wrong.
Seven Commandments of Flower shopping:
Always buy flowers from well-known outlets.
Make sure that the flowers are properly wrapped. Get the stem ends "aqua packed" in their own water `pod' if you intend to keep them out of water.
Ask the florist to supply you cut flower food.
Ask the florist to cut stems at an angle.
Keep the person’s favourite colour and sitting arrangements in mind.
For occasions like Valentine’s Day and New Year, place your order at least a week in advance.
If you want long-lasting flowers, go for chrysanthemums, carnations, lilies, gladiolus and liatris. Remember that a little TLC increases the life of all flowers.
There is a flower for every occasion!
Flowers are like words. Each one means something different. Here is a brief list of some popular meanings to help you say what you want to:
Chrysanthemum — love and truth
Daisy — innocence
Freesia — trust
Roses — happy love, fidelity, grace, and unconscious beauty
Sunflowers — devotion
Tulip — "I am hopelessly in love"
Tulips — luck
If you have to choose flowers for an office boardroom, do not go for a bouquet, which is too tall. If you must buy lilies, prefer Asiatic lilies to Oriental ones because the latter have a strong fragrance that is often distracting.
While purchasing flowers for an evening party, go for open blooms. These would look impressive, although they have a limited life.
If you want long-lasting blooms, pick the ones that are tight or closed, as it gives them a few more days to open, and therefore, they last for a longer period.
Remember the person you want to impress. Do not give red roses to your boss, or a big bouquet to someone recuperating in the hospital!
With a romantic partner, you will never go wrong with red roses!
Tip: Occasion is the keyword while selecting flowers: go according to kind of gathering, the person’s taste and significance of the flower.
