Camcorder Guide
Camcorders are relatively new in the market and you may not know how to compare two models. This guide is designed to make you aware of the qualities to look for in a DV camcorder:
Zoom: It is important to know the difference between digital and optical zoom while buying a camcorder. Optical zoom is the more important of the two, since it tells you whether the camcorder is capable of zoom at all. Digital zoom enables the camcorder to enhance the image like an image-processing program.
Editing: Buy a camcorder that comes with the software for editing your videos. Although most people like to edit videos on their PC, camcorders with built-in editing features are also available.
Image Stabilizer: If you have an unsteady hand, make sure your camcorder comes with an image stabilizer to neutralize the effect of camera shake. This comes in handy during the zoom actions when you cannot hold your camcorder steady.
LCD Monitor: If you want to take a clear look at what you are filming, buy a camcorder that has an LCD monitor. The size of the display is given in inches. The larger the size, the clearer the view. This also allows you to view your recordings.
Infrared Light: If you want to shoot in the dark, get a camcorder that has infrared light. This allows it to record film in the dark. Although the image would not be as good as one taken in daylight, you would be able to tell a river from a tree! The amount of light needed by a camcorder to record is measured in lux.
Scanning: If you want to use some shots from your film as independent pictures, buy a camcorder that has progressive scanning. This would enable it to record frame by frame and update the scan line with every picture.
Resolution: A high resolution would mean that your camcorder can produce detailed images.
